Effects of discrimination

Before moving onto examples of gender and sexual orientation-based discrimination, it is important to address that the effects of discrimination can be very damaging for individuals and society as a whole. Whether someone is discriminated against for their gender, sexual orientation, or any other personal characteristics, the consequences can be serious.

There is a vast amount of literature providing evidence that victims of numerous forms of discrimination suffer from mental health distress, such as low self-esteem, anxiety,  depression and more. Other effects of discrimination include physical health deterioration, and mental health deterioration and relationship problems amongst partners of victims.
